I was working. Diligently. When a word popped up that had to be looked up...counter-balancing. It just seems to me that in this case, in this usage, all you really need is balancing. But, trusting the writer very much, I had to look it up so I zinged over to www.merriam-webster.com.
I'm still think we could just use balance but I did learn there's no hyphen so it's a useful trip. Also useful? Adding to my list of insults with this handy list of 10 Rare and Amusing Insults. Mumpsimus, beware!
