A Book a Day

I worked through quite a few of my "to be read" books while I was on Christmas break. It all started with this one: The Hunger Games, the first in the trilogy. And then I couldn't let it go and I had to read Catching Fire and Mockingjay. I'm sure someday there'll be a movie and it should be pretty cool. Basically, it's a new United States called Panem. It's divided into 13 districts which are kept under strict control of the Capitol. In fact, after a revolution, District 13 was destroyed and now every year, each district has a lottery to choose a boy and a girl who must compete in a reality series. Only one survives. Until Katniss Everdeen is chosen. I think this one's young adult, so it's easy to read, fast and the world is pretty interesting. Not cheerful, but interesting.
I also read In Too Deep, a romancy suspensy book by Jayne Ann Krentz. And The Furies of Calderon, the first in the Codex Alera series by Jim Butcher. It's a fantasy series, centered around a very normal teenage boy named Tavi...in a world organized like the Roman Empire and where some lucky types can control the elements. And I'm midway through The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larson. I really hope I don't have to read all of these. It's not that the story's not interesting, it's just a lot of words and many of them are not familiar. I might have done better with the movie for this one too.

Since the Nook has destroyed my plans to use good self-control where books are involved, I'm looking for recommendations...and a friend to lend me Nook books. My library has a program for digital downloads...pretty soon I'm going to see if I'm technologically savvy enough to figure it all out...I think I better!

I don't have a Nook, but love to read... You don't have to read the second/third book in the dragon tattoo series... I did however enjoy the second one and have the third on my night stand...
I have been reading Faye Kellermans cop/wife Peter Decker/Rina Lazarus mysteries.. I am totally hooked...
