Isaiah 9:6
6 For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
In church on Sunday, we studied the last 2 names here...Everlasting Father and Prince of Peace. Isaiah's time was a lot like ours...fighting and suffering and people searching for more. Isaiah's prophecy is a promise, a promise of a savior with wisdom, understanding, and incredible power. But this child would also be called "Everlasting Father" and "Prince of Peace." "Father" means different things to us all. To me, it means protection, discipline and encouragement. And Prince of Peace...now more than ever, the world cries out for peace. So why don't we have peace? It's a tough question. We live in an imperfect world where sin destroys peace. And someday that will end, conquered by peace. Of course, there's no better time than now to pray for peace here, on earth.
And because I have to have something to make this more interesting, here's a YouTube video (you'll recognize this tactic if you've ever been to the other blog). Michael W. Smith sings the names of Jesus...and the video features blinking Christmas lights and it appears to be a moose singing the song. I'm not sure what all this says about me...maybe you can be both serious and childlike at Christmas?
