Missed knitting opportunity

We had a baby shower here this week and there were some really great knit and crochet gifts and I thought to myself, "Oh, yeah, I could have done something like that."

I'm like that sometimes. I'm like that a lot lately it seems. I like to knit.  I like to knit baby things (because they are small so I can finish them but people are actually impressed when you make a sweater in miniature, particularly people who don't knit like the person who's having this baby) but it just really didn't pop into my mind that here is a perfect opportunity until I am sitting at the shower.

And here's where the crazy kicks in: I start to ponder how long it might actually take to make a baby something because maybe there's still time...

At the rate I knit, there is not still time. That ship sailed months ago. And then I think about this sweater that I have knit already. All the pieces are done but I have to sew it all together. I hate that part. My knitting looks so nice until I have to put the the pieces together. And I don't think it's the right color. And then there's the blanket that I've knit, just for the heck of it. I think it needs an i-cord edge to be finished...but I'm not sure it's right either.

I love the sweaters in Lacy Baby and I have some very pretty yarn that would work for this person. And I've knit one of these before so I could probably do it easily...but still not very quickly. And I've been wanting to make the cover sweater from Lace and Leaves...wonder how quick it is? Hmmm.

So I've decided nothing. But in the wide open spaces of my house which I plan to leave only to get food this weekend, all sorts of inspiration might pop up.

And because there's at least one person watching my progress...yes, I did walk a mile and a bit on the (stupid stinking) treadmill last night. I don't even know what to call 4 nights in a row.

Like riding a bicycle

I haven't been knitting lately. In fact, it has been so long that I was beginning to wonder if I even remembered how. I picked it back up this weekend and made some progress. I believe I have 4 more blocks, the difficult ones with the changing colors, left. May 6 isn't looking so good anymore. Thank goodness I haven't met the baby-to-be that this will go to yet. It's good to be flexible.

Knit one. Over and over.

That's it. Knit one, over and over and over and over. I had originally planned to try to have this finished in a week or so. I don't believe I'm going to make it. That's OK. I made some progress this weekend, thanks to about 70 hours on my DVR (what can I say? I had to watch the entire Jim Cramer/Jon Stewart saga. And then there was a backlog of Trust Me to catch up with. It was important stuff.) And I made even more progress in putting my house to rights. I can actually walk, unimpeded, across my bedroom floor now. This is very helpful in the dark of night. With all the laundry done and my nonfunctioning treadmill wrassled out to the garage (my foot and my doorjambs will never be the same, but once I started, I just couldn't leave it there, you know? Hindsight says that it would have been smarter to wait for help. Hindsight has told me that before. I just never learn.), I have an amazingly spacious bedroom now.

Wonder how I can store either A) more books B) more yarn or C) both in the space that used to be occupied?

Why I don't have adventures...

I am 98% hermit. I don't know what the other 2% consists of, but I like to be at home. And this weekend it snowed so I was ready to knit. And after the epic battle to conquer second sock syndrome, I wanted an easy knit project. So...remember a long, long time ago when I learned to knit? I think my second project was the Mason Dixon Moderne Log Cabin baby blanket. All knitting. All the time. No purling required, just yarn and knitting and casting on/picking up and binding off. It doesn't get much simpler than that. And this time, my yarn choice is Cotton Ease which I love so much more than the cotton I used last time around. I used (mostly) yarn from my growing stash, so I'm also being economical. Now, let's just see if it grows up to be a real baby afghan someday.

Note to self: find your yarn needle or you are going to have one big mess on your hands.
