There are 2 blogs that I read daily, first thing, that's how I start my day.
#1. Pat Sloan because she's my friend, she's far away so I like to know what she's up to, and she's always into something new.
#2. Mundane Jane because she's my friend, she's right here and will probably ask me if I read the latest post, and she has good blog posts to steal and/or creatively jump off of.
There are others that I read once a week. I'll talk about stealing content from them some other time.
Yesterday MJ had a post about lists and she linked to another blog. Like a fish on a string, I followed and read that blog too to read about lists, list slams, and 6-word memoirs. I had never heard of 6-word memoirs but apparently they're inspired by my favorite Hemingway story ever (I don't like Hemingway, so the shorter, the better as far as I'm concerned). His story: "For sale: baby shoes, never worn." And I have to admit, that's good. But then there were all the other submissions! And they were funny, or sad, or funny and sad...in 6 words! And then I talked to MJ and she said she wouldn't do the 6-word memoir...so I thought "Eh, your standards are lower than hers, you might as well give it a try. You know you'll need a blog post for tomorrow anyway." Unfortunately, yesterday was not a day conducive to rolling around words in my head. So I'm a little behind, but here's what I've got so far. Some are truer than others. I'll just let you guess which ones. And all are inspired by conversations within the last 24 hours.
So much yarn, not enough time!
Fabric stash, it's a good thing.
Danger: running on Diet Coke fumes.
Hope springs eternal, thank you God.
If you can't win, don't play.
Darcy barks, I ask "How high?"
Ok, crazy people need love too.

LA's Rock Stars
And the photos you've all been waiting for (I have a kazillion photos so I figured 2 posts would be better than one and that means I'm posting Friday early. It's never too early to celebrate Friday, right? As I am an equal opportunity offender, I thought I'd post all the rock star photos today. I usually have to chase down people to get shots of them, but I am a diabolical genius and now I have photos of several dressed for the par-tay. I'm sure the captions are going to get away from the photos. Maybe this will be like a game!
Our guest of honor: Sandra and some super famous rock star that dropped in for the day with her orange guitar. She's a total rock genius and actually painted her rock like an orange (see yesterday).

Design girls: Lori and Kim with Becky looking on. How did I miss Anne?

The Artists formerly known as Art; Rhonda, the shy one with the guitar, is in charge of that bunch. And she sings too.

Mundane Jane: Here she is with her little turtle friend.

The management: Here we are. We also go to meetings.

The Beach Boys...or Girls: OK so here we have quilters Jean and Frances, artist Lora (see Picasso's rock yesterday) and MJ. They were just looking for an excuse to wear shorts and flip flops to work. I admire that about them.

They're Crafty: Christina, Laura, and Kathy pose in the lunch line. They got some ink just for the party. Rock on.

Yes, the letters are sticking: And this is the reason I feel justified in posting these photos. If I'll put one up of me, looking like this, then I feel OK about putting up nice pictures of everyone else. I'm not sure what to think about the fact that I got so many compliments while I was dressed this way. It must be all the makeup. Maybe I should actually put some on when I come in to work. I think I look more like Bad Sandy (Tell me about it, stud) without the cigarette.

Party Like A Rock Star
I've decided to add a little "pop" to my blog so that when I say something like "Now I have that song 'Party Like a Rock Star' running around in my head...", maybe I won't get are-you-an-alien looks from my friends. Thus the video post. It actually accomplishes other "pop" things...Family Guy cartoon, Shop Boyz, and Brian (the dog) and Stewie (the baby) references should all be covered if I can find a way to work it into conversation. That escapes me right now, but I'm involved in some strange conversations sometimes.

So...the real reason for the post. A rockin' retirement party for Sandra Case, our VP/Editor-in-Chief. After 23 years, she's retiring and we're going to miss her! So I've previously shown how Lesiure Arts parties...this time, there's a rock theme...rocks for her garden, rock star dress, rock music playing. Apparently it takes only 2 things to get me to wear a costume to work...1. the possibility of incorporating jeans into my costume and 2. a friend who'll dress up, too. As I had both this time, I am "Rock Royalty" until the letters fall off of my shirt. I just know it's going to happen. So, for your enjoyment, here are some rock pictures.

Traveling again

So we're off to Chicago for the summer Craft and Hobby Association trade show. If it's in the world of crafting, no matter how loosely translated, you can see it at this show. I've never been to the summer show, but I have seen the winter show (in Anaheim this year) a few times. Today I'm reminding myself of imporant lessons.
1. Wear comfortable shoes. I used to spend time worrying about my "professional" style...I only worry about that when I'm out of the building. Inside the building, I just worry about making it to work on time wearing clothes of some sort. Now at trade shows, I plan more carefully what I'll wear to go with my crummy, comfy shoes.
2. Move fast. I'm only good for about 1.5 days of travel. Once I hit the afternoon of the second day, my attention span grows very, very short. My feets and my back just distract me from all the good stuff around.
3. Just get ready to suffer for my travel. Flying is never my friend. Leaving Little Rock around 6:15 a.m. and returning around 11:10 p.m. the next day. I hope to avoid waking up hours late and making the 30 minute trip to the airport in 10 minutes or less. I'm tired already, but I'll be glad I did it on Sunday...when I am neck-deep in the last Harry Potter book. If one more person says one more thing to me about midnight parties or getting their copy on Saturday, thus beating me at the start line, I might lose it. And, by the way, Mundane Jane is headed for the train. She doesn't do planes well. She'll probably have some interesting posts to check out.
4. Carry plenty of projects to work on. Since I had such a close scare in Salt Lake City of running out of something to work on, I've planned my knit project more carefully than my "professional" style. A girl has to have her priorities.
